Japan, Tokyo - Tokyo Dome

A lot of things happened during this trip but it's too long and difficult to be elaborated on the blog. But I guess usually things happen for a reason.

So yes, I'm finally updating on my trip 2 months ago. So on the 14th of May I went for my first trip to Tokyo on Korean Air.

We took the airport limousine bus from narita airport to TCAT at 2000 yen (youth price). The hotel is at Jimbocho station and we had to take a train from Suitengumae station to Jimbocho station.
Getting PASMO card (our ezlink card)
A PASMO card is not really necessary because from what I know, they do not have a discounted price like our ezlink/Korea's T-money. Plus, there is a deposit of 500Yen for the card and if you want to refund the card at the end of your trip you'll only get back a percentage (think 80%) of the 500 yen due to processing fee. It's just more convenient since you don't have to buy a ticket everything you need to take the train. Transport in Japan is really expensive!

Only Women Carriage
At first due to the presence of escalator I was thinking "People always say there are no escalators and lifts in Japan's train station, not true leh." and then while going to exit Jimbocho station, I saw those flights of stairs. Having to carry a 18 + kg luggage up flights of stairs is no joke. Thankfully, met a very nice and kind Japanese uncle who helped carry the huge luggage up. Arigato Gozaimasu!
Ice Cream Vending Machine
They really have vending machines everywhere.

That night visited...
Tokyo Dome
It is located at Suidobashi station on the JR line. Japan lines are really complicated, and to add to the complication, different lines belong to different companies and most of the time you have to tap in/out again if you're transfering between different companies lines.

There was a baseball match going on in the stadium. Japanese seems to really be supportive of their baseball.

Tokyo Dome is like a resort on it's own. They have their hotel, shopping mall and even an amusement park. Their amusement park was quite empty when I was there, maybe cause it's late or because of it's relatively small size or maybe it's because with disneyland and disneysea who needs other amusement parks.Despite their relatively small size (abit like our escape theme park), they actually have quite a number of rides. They even have a roller coaster that go through a hole in the shopping mall but it's temporary closed now.

Their amusement park has the flexibility of getting a day/night pass which allows you to take unlimited rides (except for certain rides) or individual tickets for each ride between 400 yen to 800 yen.

Took their ferris wheel at 800 Yen.
Haha, can you spot me in the dark?

Let's learn Korean

I have stopped my Korean class already because the teacher wasn't going to continue with the next level which means I haven't touched Korean for quite some time. So in order to prevent me from losing all the Korean knowledge, I recently took out KU book. I forgot a lot of stuff already so let's start learning from today again. I can't be talking to myself all the time, so I shall type it out on my blog, and in this way I can learn how to write also.

Let's go!

Little pancakes + White House Down + Despicable Me 2

Recently I saw pictures of pancakes on Jolee's instagram and they looked super yummy. So I decided to give it a try too. Went with Muihong on 3rd July.

Better check their opening hours since it may be different for different days, when we reached they were still closed. They only opened at 1pm that day.

Lychee/Apple Yakult - $3.70
I prefer Muihong's lychee one to my apple one. The apple yakult is abit too sour for me.
Going Nutella For You - $8.20

Haha, I was joking to muihong about how her nutella reminded me of ... and she said my blueberries reminded her of rabbit ...
Something Blue - $8.50
Their presentation is different from that in facebook but just their presentation alone is enough to tempt you to want to eat their pancakes. Their pancakes taste great with ice-cream. Everything tastes great with ice-cream. The pancakes is good, I finished all of them even though usually I get sick of pancakes very quickly. Although there are 10 pieces of pancakes, they're really mini.

I want to go back to try their other pancakes! They have special pancakes flavour like chick(sausage)/ham and cheesy and Singaporeans Unite (Kaya ...). However, their shop is quite far away from me. They're located at 200 Upper Thomson Road, #01-04, Thomson Imperial Court, Singapore 574424. It's about 15-20 minutes walk at my slow speed from Marymount MRT.

After that we went to Plaza Singapura to watch White House Down. As the name suggest, the movie is about the bombing of the White House with lots of twists and turns and some insights on hidden passageway/rooms in the White House. The movie totally surprised me. It was a good combination of action and humour. I knew it will be an action packed movie but I didn't expect it to be so funny from beginning to end. It must have been quite difficult to combine all the humour with all the action in the movie. Plus, the main actor was handsome too!

After the movie, we went from plaza sg all the way to ion orchard in search of white shirt but believe it or not, along the way there were no white shirts available (Mango had a few but only in XS and S (34)) except in G2000. Damn weird, must have been bought by all the people going for commencement.

Went to catch Despicable Me 2 with Carissa on Monday at NEX. I had high expectations for the movie because of the very good ratings and how everyone has been obsessed with Minions. The movie was funny and I love Mr Gru plus the other characters but I still felt like something was missing in the movie. Just felt like it didn't meet my expectations for it. However, I'm not sure if it's because my mind wasn't in the most positive mood since I have been thinking a lot recently since commencement which may have affected the overall feel of the movie.

I still prefer White House Down between the two even though the white house down rating is 6.3 while Despicable Me 2 rating is 7.8.

LOL. I think everytime I hear this song, I will remember this version instead.

Tim Ho Wan

Went to Tim Ho Wan for brunch with my eommas many many saturdays ago (8/6). Yeah the Tim Ho Wan with the super long queue at Plaza Singapura. They reached at 10am and we managed to enter at around 1045am. Despite their super long queue, guess waiting time is still not that bad for a Saturday.

Pork Congee - $3.20++
Flavourful and nice. Not bad, but I seldom eat congee so I can't really compare either.
Prawn dumplings - $5.50 ++
Fat and fluffy har gao means they have generous amount of prawns in it.
Glutinous Rice - $5
Taste average, I eat this occassionally for breakfast but mine was bought from coffee shop and I think it's comparable to this, or maybe better.
 Carrot cake-$4.50 ++
I think the taste of their carrot cake is so-so only, the carrot cake which the coffeeshop sells taste better to me.
The main lead, BBQ Pork Bun - $4.50 ++
This got the approval of everyone. Muihong, ZhiHui and my cousin. I dabao-ed one back cause I couldn't stuff anymore food into my stomach. Sweet and a little crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside.

We were damn full after the meal.We each had our own bowl of congee and 3 char siew buns, plus all the other dim sums. Total bill came up to $63.55.

To be honest, I don't see the appeal of Tim Ho Wan that can entice people to queue for hours. The only dim sum I feel is exceptional is the char siew bun because it's different from our usual white ones. I thought Tim Ho Wan is the only place that sell that, but I realised other dim sum places do sell them too. Their spring roll ($4.20++) is also quite nice. The best place to have dim sum is still Hong Kong! I remembered I was damn amazed by their har gao cause it was stuffed with prawns.

I didn't realised dim sum in Singapore is actually so expensive.

Recently saw on article comparing Singapore's Tim Ho Wan and Hong Kong Tim Ho Wan and the results were surprising. I have my doubts about that article though.

Noodle Around

So on Monday, I met Carissa for dinner. I was waiting for her at her clinic which really looks like a nice place to work in. Although it may be because I went there during their off-peak period. Sometimes I wonder if pursuing a degree which gives you a job is better than one that you like.

Anyway I had serious prawn noodles craving because I felt like I have not eaten it in a long long time. So after googling for prawn noodles near Bugis, we found Noodle Around.  We actually went one big round searching for it even though we were standing right in front of it because it didn't look like a place that sells noodles.

So as per their name, they sell noodles. All kinds of noodles.
Big prawn noodles -$11.90
We had the big prawn noodles. It was okay but the soup was not as flavorful as I would have wanted it to be. It's abit expensive to me also because I usually only eat hawker centre small prawn noodles. Having the prawns cut this way was good though, save the trouble of having to peel prawns. Plus their service was good too. There's also student discount of 10%.

Anyway prawn noodles craving satisfied! But now I'm craving for more. I'm a noodle lover.

Ending with a photo we took the meeting before this.

Commencement 2013

I super love this photo from the photo booth. The rest of the photos I don't like most of them because I think my face look like fish balls in them.
